A highly anticipated battle of AUS MVP candidates failed to materialize at the Tower on Friday night as Jimmy Dorsey of the Cape Breton Capers was unable to play due to a knee injury and the Saint Mary`s Huskies cruised to a 79-66 victory.
Huskie`s MVP hopeful Tory Fassett scored twenty two points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Saint Marys to their sixth win of the season (6-6, 16 points). Riley Halpin added fifteen points and rookie Brian Rouse tallied seventeen.
Al Alilovic scored thirteen points to pace the Capers while Arild Geugjes, Julian Smith, and Kelson Devereaux each added ten points. The Capers out-rebounded the Huskies 51-45 but committed eighteen costly turnovers.
The Huskies led 39-31 at the half and overcame poor shooting from the three point line ( 3 for 19 ) to improve to 4-1 in 2012. Huskies and Capers can watch the replay of this game on www.sportstream.ca.
The Capers will travel to play the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men on Saturday night in Antigonish while the Huskies will prepare for a rematch with the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday night at the Tower. The Huskies lost to the Tigers last weekend 72-70 at the Dalplex.
