An explosion of four goals midway through the third period gave the Saint Mary's Huskies (5-4-0) all the separation they would need as they cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers (2-7-0) Wednesday night in front of 621 fans at The Forum.
Chris Mackinnon (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored at 9:04 of the third period to give the Huskies a 3-1 lead followed by goals from Subway Player of the Game Cory Tanaka (Stouffville, Ont.), Cam Fergus (Brantford, Ont.), and Gerrad Grant (Halifax, NS.).
Micharl D'Orazio (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Stephen Johnston (Guelph, Ont.) scored the game tying and game winning goals respectively in the first period for the Huskies.
Shea Kewin (Guelph, Ont.) scored the first goal at 7:48 of the opening period to give the Tigers their only lead of the game.
Neil Conway (Painesville, Ohio) made 22 saves to earn his second win for the Huskies while Wendell Vye (Moncton, NB.) stopped 22 of 28 shots in a losing effort for Dalhousie.
Both teams struggled on the power play with Saint Mary's scoring only once on seven opportunities while the Tigers couldn't cash in on their seven chances with the man advantage.
Dalhousie has lost six straight games and will look to get oun track this weekend at the Memorial Arena as they host the UNB Varsity Reds on Friday night at 7:00 and the UPEI Panthers on Saturday afternoon at 3:00. Both games can be seen on www.ssncanada.ca.
The Huskies have won four of their last five games and now hit the road to play the St.Thomas Tommies on Friday night at 7:00 (webcast at http://w3.stu.ca/stu/athletics/broadcast/default.aspx) and the Moncton Les Aigles Bleus on Saturday night at 7:00.
The Huskies next home game will be November 19th at The Forum versus the Acadia Axemen.
