Perry Marchese

Perry Marchese - Head Coach

Accomplishments: Assistant Coach in CIS with Bishop's and Guelph, Assistant Coach in CFL with Hamilton and Toronto

 

 

Devin Murphy- Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs/Strength and Conditioning
Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario
Education: BA Psychology, BA General Art


Devin has been coaching Defensive Backs in the CIS since 2006, spending two years with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees before joining the Saint Mary's Huskies. In These 5 seasons he has won 4 Conference Championships, 1 in the OUA and 3 in the AUS. Along the way 8 of his Defensive Backs have earned CIS All-Canadian honours, and 7 more have gone on to sign with CFL teams. With the help of a talented and dedicated coaching staff, he has turned SMU into the top Defensive Backs school in Canada . 2011 is his first season in the role of Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach.


In 2010 he was the Defensive Coordinator for the U18 Nova Scotia Provincial team, which finished fourth in the Football Canada Cup. In the summer of 2011 he fulfilled the same role with the U16 team. Devin Played Defensive Back for the Ottawa Gee Gees from 2001-2005, participating in the 2003 East/West Bowl. In 2009 he was the AUS Conference Volunteer Coach of the Year.

 

Pierre Lefebvre - Special Teams Coordinator
Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Pierre has coached over 35 years.He was an All-Star Defensive Back in tha AUS 71-72.He has been to the Vanier Cup 8 Times as a Coach and has won 3 National Championships.He is a full certified level 3 coach,and is the High Performance Director for Football Nova Scotia.He is Special Teams and Recruiting Co-ordinator.Pierre has been married to his wife Pat for 37 years,and has 3 children,Andre,Alain and Danielle.

 

Joe Taplin - Defensive LIne

Hometown: Truro, NS
Education: BA, Crim. Cert.ˆRCMP/Media Relations


Joe is a Sergeant with the RCMP in Halifax and has been coaching at the University ranks for the past 11 years and has been with the Huskies for the past 9 years.  He first started coaching at the high school ranks and Alberta in 1991 and has coached every season since.  He has won the Phil Hughes volunteer coach of the year and heads up the Huskies community programs.

 

Steven Watts - Defensive Backs and Assistant Special Teams Coordinator
Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario
Education: B.Soc.Sc., M.A.

Steven is in his second year of coaching with the Huskies. He is a former player with both the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees and Saint Mary’s Huskies, winning three conference championships (2006 OUA Championship, 2008 AUS Championship, 2009 AUS Championship). Steven is also a former Academic All-Canadian.
As a coach in 2010, he won an AUS Championship, with two of his defensive backs, and one special teams player earning All-Canadian honours.


 

Derek Weber - Defensive LIne

Hometown: Whitby, Ont

Education: BA Psychology, Certificate in Human Resource Management
Awards: Awards: 2009 2nd Team All Canadian, 2009/2008/2006 AUS All-Star, 2009 Lineman of the Year (SMU), 2008 Offensve MVP (SMU)

Derek is in his second year of coaching the Huskies defensive line. He is a former Center with the Saint Mary’s Huskies and was a member of the 2002 Vanier Cup winning team. He also was a part of several conference championships and national semi final titles. As a player and captain, Derek represented the East in the annual East/West Bowl All-Start Game, received 2 conference All-Star nods as well as All-Canadian honors.  In 2010 he was the Offensive line coach for the U18 Nova Scotia Provincial team, which finished fourth in the Football Canada Cup.

Derek is employed as a Realtor for Century 21 Classic Realty LTD.



 

Keith Lockwood - Quarterback Coach

Hometown:  Torrance, CA
Education: Bachelors of Kinesiology from Acadia University
 
Second year as Saint Mary’s Quarterbacks Coach. Played three seasons for the Acadia University Axemen. Started as Quarterback in all three seasons.  Transferred to Acadia from Los Angeles Harbor Community College after playing for three seasons at LAHC.

 
Bill Scollard

Bill Scollard, Reeivers
Hometown: Burlington, ON

Education: BC, Economics


Bill played and coached at Saint Mary’s in the 1980’s and 1990’s and was the head coach at J.L. Ilsley High School in 1991 and 1992. 
Bill currently resides in Bedford  and has been married to wife Deanne for 18 years.  Members of their family include 3 children;  Connor, Cailin, and Gabrielle and their dog Ozzie.

 

Paul Mason - Team Manager
Hometown: Halifax, NS

 

Colin Sutton - Video Coordinator

Hometown: New Glasgow, Nova Scotia


6th season with Huskies; responsible for practice and game day video
preparation, to production and distribution of official films

 

John McGowan - Kicking Coach and Statistician

Education: BSc (Phys. Ed) M Ed

Hometown: London, Ontario

John is a physical education and core French teacher at Springvale
School in Halifax. This is his 11th year with Huskies Football. John
played in University for St.F.X. John and his wife Maria have two
children, a son Kyran and daughter Lauren. In 2009 John was honoured
at the national physical education conference with the "Physical
Education Teaching Excellence Award" for the province of Nova Scotia.


 
Joe Chrvala

Joe has been the official photographer for the past 4 years and is now entering his 5th season with huskies. Joe is a retired member of the Canadian Navy and is currently employed at Saint Mary's University.

 
Greg Ferguson

Greg Ferguson, Academic Advisor

Greg Ferguson, Director of Admissions will be retiring this June after more than 30 years of service.  Greg is a graduate of Saint Mary’s and began his career as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Commerce. In 1978, he became Assistant Director of Admissions, followed by Acting Director and, starting in 1985, the Director of Admissions.  Please join us in wishing Greg all the best in his retirement.

THE SAINT MARY'S HUSKIES FOOTBALL TEAM is proud to announce the appointment of a new Football Academic Facilitator, Greg Ferguson. Ferguson has been a member of the Saint Mary's community for a number of years as the Director of Admissions and has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of the university.  He will assist all of the student-athletes, particularly the first year students, with registration, coordination of any tutors needed and ensure that all players are working towards their degree in a timely fashion. Ferguson's knowledge surrounding the success of students will help enhance student-athletes to excel on and off the field  This year at Huskies home games a Special Olympics athlete will become the Huskies 13th Man/Women and will lead the Huskies football team onto the field by carrying the University Flag onto the field. 

 
Laura Campbell

Laura Campbell , Film Technician
Hometown: Shelburne, NS

Laura is currently in her 2nd year with the Huskies Staff as a Film Technician. She resides in Halifax, NS and works in the healthcare industry. Lifelong football and sports fan. Laura also enjoys keeping the team well fed and helping out behind the scenes.
