Bhreagh Burke and Andrew Peverill, from Cross Country are this week's winners.
Bhreagh, a 2nd year runner student from Halifax, was the SMU top finisher in the 8km race in 31:58 placing 10th.
Andrew, 4th year from Bedford, NS, won the AUS Championships 8km race in 25:18 and was named AUS Athlete of the year.
On a side note; this was a remarkable finish for Bhreagh, considering she lost one of her shoes during the first kilometre of the race. She stopped put it back on, only to have the shoe fall again, leaving her in 25th position. She removed the 2nd shoe, continued racing in her sock feet for the 2nd kilometre then stopped again and removed her socks and ran bare feet for the remainder of the race to finish 10th.
This was without doubt was one of the gutsiest performances that I have witnessed over my years of coaching cross country.
Both athletes will compete in the upcoming U Sport Championships in Kingston, Ontario on November 9th.
