Huskies earn top AUS Defensive & Special Team Players of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Quarterback Jakob Loucks of the Mount Allison Mounties, along with defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers and kicker Brian Hope—both of the Saint Mary's Huskies—have been selected as the Week 1 AUS football players of the week for their respective performances this past weekend.

Mount Allison Mounties quarterback Jakob Loucks is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending August 26, 2017.

A second-year psychology student from Cornwall, Ont., Loucks threw three touchdowns in Mount Allison's 64-23 win Saturday over the Acadia Axemen in Sackville, N.B.

The 2016 U Sports rookie of the year, Loucks went 29 for 36 for 402 yards passing and had four carries for 53 yards rushing in the 2017 season opener.

The Mounties see action next this Friday when they visit the two-time defending champion StFX X-Men in a rematch of the 2016 Subway AUS Loney Bowl.

Saint Mary's Huskies defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A third-year commerce student from Toronto, Lyte-Myers had two interceptions in the Huskies' 38-23 win over the two-time defending StFX X-Men in Friday's AUS season opener. He returned the first six yards and the second 10 yards for a touchdown.

Lyte-Myers also had two solo tackles in the win, including a sack for a loss of one yard.

The Huskies now have a bye week. They next see action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they will travel to Lennoxville, Que. to face off against the Bishop's Gaiters.

Saint Mary's Huskies kicker Brian Hope has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.

A second-year arts student from Port Coquitlam, B.C., Hope scored 14 points in the Huskies 38-23 win over StFX Friday night in Halifax.

Hope made good on four of six field goal attempts and was successful on both point-after attempts. He also averaged 35.9 yards on 10 punts in the game—three of which were downed inside the 20—and had five kickoffs for 185 yards.
