Huskies fall to Acadia to end regular season play

WOLFVILLE, NS – In their final home game of the regular season, the Acadia Axemen topped the previously undefeated Saint Mary's Huskies in a 31-2 victory.

Both the Axemen and Huskies were slow to start, with the first quarter going scoreless. However, some highs of the first quarter included Acadia running back Dale Wright rushing 65 yards total.

The second quarter saw a break into the scoreboard for the Axemen, with Brandon Jennings scoring a 19-yard field to give the Axemen a 3-0 lead. Halfway through the second quarter, Acadia quarterback Alex Lawrie scored the first touchdown of the game, providing Axemen with a 10-0 lead over the Huskies.

Three minutes after Lawrie's major, Acadia running back Dale Wright widened the lead by scoring his first of two majors, giving the Axemen a 17-0 first half advantage.

The Axemen gave up a safety early in the third quarter, giving the Huskies the only points to be scored against Acadia in the season-ending game.

Wright scored his second touchdown of the afternoon following a 2-yard rush and bringing the Axemen up to a comfortable lead of 24-2 at the end of the third quarter of play.

The excitement continued very shortly after the opening of the fourth quarter. Second-year Axemen running back, Cole Estabrooks, rushed an impressive 53 yards to seal the win for the Axemen, pushing the lead to 31-2.

Acadia played a strong game on both sides of the ball, including notable performances from running back Dale Wright, who rushed for 185 yards.
