MONCTON – Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (3-14-2=8pts, 6th position) began the second semester on a losing note as they gave up a goal in the first minute of play, on Wednesday evening, to fall 7-1 to the Saint Mary's University Huskies (14-4-1=29pts, 3rd position), in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action in front of over 450 spectators at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
Anthony Repaci, Subway player of the game, and Jack Coughler, led the visitors attack with two goal apiece. The Huskies led 3-0 after the first period and 5-0, after two. Mark Trickett, Bradley Latour and Taylor Burke completed the scoring.
In the third, Robbie Graham (Vincent Deslauriers, Jean-François Plante), on the power play, scored the lone Aigles Bleus goal. Moncton was dominated 41-23 on shots on goal. Alexi Thibaudeau, who saw 17 shots in the second, was credited with the loss in front of the net. Cole Cheveldave saw 23 pucks for the win. The Huskies were 2 for 5 on the power play and the Aigles Bleus, 1 for 4.
''I am tired of losing, this is another loss,'' stated Moncton coach Judes Vallée following the game. "We have a decent team that needs to play in a defensive structure and together. The minute we get scored on, we become individuals. We forget our structure and what we need to do on the ice. This is our 19th game and we have not learned that yet. The players are intelligent, they must understand that if we do not play in our structure, we cannot do anything, like tonight. Their first two goals opened the way to our net and that is mental. We have players we look to score and others to hit and they don't achieve their workload. We are playing a game that is not ours."
''We were dead right off the start of the game,'' added Aigles scorer Robbie Graham. ''They scored in the first minute and it as a bad start for us. We did miss our chances later. We will find a way to score goals."
The Huskies host Acadia on Saturday at the Forum and the Aigles travel to Wolfville, Friday evening for an encounter with 4th place Acadia University Axemen.
