(HALIFAX, NS)—The Acadia Axemen scored twice within the first 20 minutes in route to a 3-1-win Sunday afternoon versus the host Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS men's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.
Tyler Connolly (Quisspamsis, NB) opened the Acadia scoring, pouncing on a save from SMU goalie Christian Oxner (Halifax, NS) in the 5th minute.
Connolly set-up the Axemen second goal at the 20th minute on a give and go with Cooper Coats (Halifax, NS) who scored his sixth goal of the year.
A Saint Mary's own goal off a shot from Coats put Acadia up 3-0 in the 37th minute.
Darien Rolle (Halifax, NS) replied for the Huskies with his second goal of the year in the 68th minute. Fabian Perez (Bogota, Columbia) forced a turnover and found Nolan Leeco (Bedford, NS) who passed to Rolle, who once he gained control of the ball, deposited it past Axemen keeper Nic Jefferies.
Acadia outshot SMU 7-6 in the contest and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks and a 4-3 save margin.
Jefferies (Rothsay, NB) improves to 4-2-1 on the year.
Both teams return to action in two weeks versus the 5-1-1 StFX X-Men. Acadia travels to StFX October 14th for a 5:15 pm match and the Huskies host the X-Men October 15th at 3 pm.
