Saint Mary’s and Football Nova Scotia announce details of Junior Huskies Football Academy

Saint Mary's Huskies football program, in partnership with Football Nova Scotia, is pleased to announce the details of their Junior Huskies Football Academy, a new offseason program that will focus on developing skills for young football players in the province.

"It's a developmental program with an emphasis on skill and fundamentals," says Huskies Head Coach Steve Sumarah. "We are very excited to work together with Football Nova Scotia and look forward to having many of our current and future football players participating."

The Junior Huskies program welcomes athletes of all skill levels from ages 4-20.  The program runs from January 8 to March 12, 2023.

There are five different streams (click links for details):

Equipment

The following age categories are required to supply their own gear:
  • Tackle Intro (Ages 9-10)
  • Tackle Prospects (ages 11-13)
  • Elite Male Tackle (ages 14-18)
  • Open Female (ages 18+)
Equipment can be sourced from their own Club or High School program. If you have any questions regarding equipment, please contact smufit@smu.ca or by phone 902-420-5555.
 
The program will be hosted at Saint Mary's University and the East Coast Varsity Dome in Dartmouth, NS.
 
"This program will benefit all Nova Scotians involved in the game of football," says Football Nova Scotia's Executive Director Karen Ouellette. "Ultimately, this program is another step in helping us continue strengthening football training programming while growing the game in the province."
 
"This partnership just makes sense; football in Nova Scotia is synonymous with the Saint Mary's Huskies. These AUS athletes are playing at a very high level, so they're great mentors for younger players, they know the game and are able to pass along important lessons that they've learned."
