Derek Gentile finishes 2024-25 season as U SPORTS leading scorer

Saint Mary's Huskies forward Derek Gentile finished the 2024-25 season as the leading scorer in all of U SPORTS Men's Hockey. Gentile scored two goals and added two assists in the Huskies 11-5 win over the STFX X-Men on Friday night, and finished the regular season with 47 points (19 goals and 27 assists) in 29 games played.

Gentile is the first Huskies men's hockey player to lead the country in scoring since Marc Rancourt recorded 57 points in the 2008-09 season. Previous to Gentile, the last Husky to lead the AUS in scoring was Lucas Bloodoff who scored 38 points in the 2012-13 season, and went on to be named CIS Player of the Year.

Gentile's four-point performance in the season finale also took him over the 100-point mark for his AUS regular season career. Gentile previously played two seasons with the Dalhousie Tigers, recording 55 points (26 goals and 29 assists) in 46 games. His career point total is now 101 points (45 goals and 56 assists) in 75 games played.

Gentile and the Huskies finished the regular season with a 17-11-2 record, good for third place in the AUS standings. They'll host the #6 seed UPEI Panthers in the AUS Men's Hockey quarterfinals, with game one to be played Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre. GET TICKETS
