HALIFAX, NS – The STFX X-Men scored five straight goals to defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies 6-1 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action on Friday night at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, N.S.
STFX opened the scoring in the 8th minute, as midfielder Nico Goldsztein (Winnipeg, MB) played a cross through the box to Samuel Barrowcliffe (Princeton, ON) who sent a low, hard shot to the bottom right corner past Huskies goalkeeper Logan Briand (Halifax, NS).
The Huskies countered in the 22nd minute, as defender Jimmy Rex (Halifax, NS) played a beautiful ball over the top that found the chest of Jalen Loague (London, ON) who flicked it past X-Men goalkeeper Samuel Diltz (Newmarket, ON) to tie the match at 1-1.

But the two-time defending champion X-Men simply had too much firepower for the young Huskies squad, and despite several outstanding saves from Logan Briand, the visitors added to their tally twice more in the first half and three more times in the second half, with goals coming from Logan Rieck, Isaac VanWychen, Max Cameron, John Kalinda and Kyle Cordeiro, resulting in a 6-1 STFX win.
X-Men defender Max Cameron was named Player of the Game with a goal. Samuel Diltz made three saves for the win, while Logan Briand stopped four shots in defeat.
The X-Men improve to 1-1-1 on the campaign, while Saint Mary's drops to 1-2-0. STFX will return to Antigonish, NS to host the UNB REDS (0-0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m., while the Huskies will hit the road to Moncton to take on the Aigles Bleus (2-0-0), also Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
