Huskies Men's Soccer announce 2025-26 recruiting class
Saint Mary's men's soccer head coach Mesut Mert is pleased to announce the commitment of six new recruits to the Huskies line-up for the upcoming 2026 season.
Joshua Abu
A 6'2" centreback from Edmonton, Alberta, Joshua Abu joins the Huskies as a transfer from the Mount Allison Mounties.
Abu started five games for the Mounties last season, and was named the Mount Allison Athlete of the Week on Oct. 5, 2025.
Abu is described as a strong, intense defender who is confident on the ball, and willing to step up to create opportunities for the team.
"I'm thankful to God for this opportunity, and I'm excited for the challenge ahead," said Abu. "I'm ready to work, compete and help push the Huskies to back where they want to be."
Nicholas Bellefleur
A 6'3" goalkeeper from Moncton, New Brunswick, Nick Bellefleur joins the Huskies out of École L'Odyssée and Codiac FC U17AAA.
Bellefleur is described as a calm, hardworking goalie, who takes pride in doing whatever it takes to help his team succeed. He also represented his home province of New Brunswick at the 2025 Canada Games.
"Committing to Saint Mary's means a lot to me," says Bellefleur. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and excited to push myself every day, continue growing as a goalie, and be part of the Huskies program."
Bellefleur will be studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Mary's.
Justin Chiasson
A 5'11" centreback from New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Justin Chiasson joins the Huskies out of Breton Education Centre and CBFC U17AAA.
Chiasson is a three-time team MVP and Rookie of the Year with BEC, and has also been named team MVP with CBFC.
"I feel grateful and excited for the opportunity to play university soccer at Saint Mary's," says Chiasson. "I'm looking forward to challenging myself on and off the pitch, learning from great coaches and contributing to the team's success."
Chiasson is described as a physical and aggressive defender, who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. He will join his cousin Jake Wilcox with the Huskies.
"Justin is not only a great footballer, but also a great person," says CBFC U17AAA Head Coach Alasdiar Dunbar. "On the field, he is a tireless competitor. He holds himself to a high standard and sees every moment on the field as a moment to better himself. Off the field, Justin is a natural leader who brings maturity and dedication that brings out the best in his teammates. Justin has been a pleasure to coach, and I can't wait to see him succeed at SMU!"
Fisher Doyle
A 5'11" left back from Comox Valley, British Columbia, Fisher Doyle joins the Huskies out of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School and Comox Valley United U21.
Doyle helped lead Comox Valley United U21 to a second place finish in the Vancouver Island Soccer League in the 2025 season, recording one goal and 14 assists.
Doyle also starred at the high school level with Isfeld Secondary School, recording nine goals and 12 assists. In 2024, he helped Isfeld to their first ever BCSS AA Island Championship, and a fourth place finish at BCSS AA Provincials, the highest finish in school history.
Doyle is described as a fast, left-footed left fullback who likes to attack and support the offense.
"I'm excited to join Saint Mary's University to continue my soccer journey while studying environmental science," says Doyle. "I'm looking forward to growing as both a player and a student and being part of the Saint Mary's community."
Doyle will be studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science at Saint Mary's.
Max Moore
A 5'9" left winger / midfielder out of Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, Max Moore joins the Huskies out of Bay View High School and Suburban FC.
Moore contributed to a historic 2025 season for Suburban FC U17AAA, culminating in a gold medal at the 2025 Toyota National Championships in Kamloops, BC, and being selected to the Tournament Starting 11 All-Star team. Moore helped lead that team to an undefeated regular season and provincial championship, contributing 11 goals in 15 games.
That Suburban FC team also won the U17 Nova Scotia Provincial Championship, after an undefeated season, with Moore contributing 11 goals in 15 games. Over the past three seasons with Suburban FC, Moore has scored 37 goals in 52 games, and helped lead the team to three Toyota National Club Championships.
Described as an explosive playmaker with elite pace on-and-off the ball, Moore has also represented his home province of Nova Scotia on several occasions, including winning the 2025 Atlantic Championship. He also participated in the Whitecaps FC 'Caps to College program.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Huskies this fall," says Moore,. "Saint Mary's felt like the right fit from the start, offering a top-tier business education and a chance to compete at a high level right here at home. I'm looking forward to the season ahead and getting to work with my new teammates and coaches."
"I'm honored to officially become a Husky, especially because it brings my family connection to Saint Mary's full circle. With two of my grandparents being proud SMU alumni, I've always had a deep respect for the university."
Moore will be studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Mary's, with plans to major in Sports Management.
Cole Wilkin
A 5'11" defender from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Cole Wilkin joins the Huskies out of Auburn Drive High and UDFC.
Wilkin captained UDFC at the U17 and U15 levels, being named 2025 UDFC Men's Player of the Year.
Wilkin also represented Nova Scotia at the 2025 Canada Games, and was a member of the Halifax Wanderers FC U18 development team. He's described as a versatile and intelligent defender who can play several positions and reads the game well.
"I am excited for the opportunity to represent Saint Mary's," says Wilkin. "I'm proud to continue my academic and athletic journey with the men's soccer program. Ready to work!"
