Bio
Mesut Mert enters his 11th season as Head Coach of the Huskies after a long term run as assistant coach to the program. Over his 10 seasons as Huskies head coach, Mert has coached the Huskies to a 41-56-25 record and five straight trips to the AUS Playoffs. In 2021, Mert coached the Huskies to the AUS Final and a berth at the U SPORTS National Championship in Ottawa, ON.
Over Mert's tenure with the Huskies he has coached two U SPORTS All-Canadians (Colby Mercer 2024, Sean Freeman 2022), three U SPORTS All-Rookie team members (Orion Wiersma 2022, Sean Freeman 2021, James Spence 2019), an AUS Most Valuable Player (Colby Mercer 2024) and dozens of AUS All-Stars (Colby Mercer 2024 & 2023, Woody Bain 2024 & 2023, Callum Corkum 2024, Scott Firth 2024, Adam Dunsworth 2023, Sean Freeman 2022 & 2021, Cian Tousignant-Osiadhail 2022 & 2021, Cameron Zinn 2022, Sumit Malik 2021, Alex Black 2019 & 2018, Christian Oxner 2015).
During his 5 years as a player for the Huskies from 1999-2003, Mert a 2-time CIS Player of the Year, as well as AUS Rookie of the Year. He was also a two-time SMU Male Athlete of the Year and a member of the Canadian University Games Soccer Team in 2003-2004. Mesut also played professionally with the Calgary Mustangs and Montreal Impact from 2004-2007.
Mesut is currently the Director of Player and Coach Development at Suburban Football Club and coach of the Suburban Men's team.
