Huskies post strong performances at Moncton Open

The Saint Mary's Huskies Track & Field team returned to action after the Christmas break this past Saturday at the RCI Recontre Ouverte de Moncton Open, hosted at the Universite de Moncton.

Leading the charge for the Huskies was third-year athlete Mason Dunlop placing first in the shot put and earning a new personal best of 15.10m. This result places Dunlop 7th in the U SPORTS rankings! Following-up his stellar performance from earlier Dunlop placed second in the weight throw, once again throwing a new personal best of 14.96m and smashing the previous Saint Mary's school record.

Other strong notable performances placing Huskies on top of the podium were by Chad Smith who won the 60m in a time of 7.03, Oliver Gavel won the 300m in a time of 37.64, and Eli Ford won the 600m in a time 1:28.

A range of Huskies had an excellent meet in improving their own personal bests including; Ciaran MacDonald in long jump, leaping 5.55m, Tayah Remington in the 60m, running 8.49, Amelia Jardine in the weight throw, throwing 10.52m, Eric Wall in the shot put, throwing 10.32m, Jonathan Vanwart in the shot put throwing 12.07m and the weight throw, throwing 10.83m, Fergus Porter in the shotput, throwing 12.65m, and Chandler Zinck in the 60m, running 7.16.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend Friday, January 17th, and Saturday, January 18th, at the Athletics Nova Scotia Open, hosted at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax.
