FREDERICTON, NB - St. Thomas forward Megan Kirkpatrick scored two goals, helping lead the Tommies to a 5-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Friday night in Fredericton, NB.
The Tommies took the lead midway through the first period off a powerplay goal by forward Megan Kirkpatrick at the 9:41 mark.
Less than two minutes later, Kirkpatrick struck again, with her second powerplay goal of the period doubling the lead to 2-0, 11:38 into the first.
Just over five minutes later, the Tommies extended their lead to 3-0 off a goal from Carys Cross 17:14 into the first.
The Huskies cut into the lead in the dying seconds of the period, as Jillian Duggan (Halifax, NS) stuffed a rebound past Tommies netminder Chloe Marshall, cutting the lead to 3-1 with just two seconds remaining.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 11-6 through the opening 20 minutes, but the Tommies took a 3-1 lead into first intermission.
The second period saw the Tommies grow their lead off a powerplay goal from forward Nadia Lavoie, 4:57 into the second period, putting them ahead 4-1.
St. Thomas outshot Saint Mary's 10-7 in the second period, cutting the Huskies advantage to 18-16, and taking a 4-1 lead into second intermission.
Midway through the third period the Huskies got one back, with a powerplay goal courtesy of captain Ashley Penney (Lawrencetown, NS), cutting the lead to 4-2, 9:29 into the third period.

But the Tommies iced it with a goal from Laura Brown with four minutes remaining, securing the 5-2 victory.
The Huskies outshot the Tommies 25-20 on the night, with Chloe Marshall stopping 23 shots for the win, while Ridleigh Hansen made 15 saves in defeat.
The Tommies improve to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Huskies drop to 1-1-0. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, with the Tommies hosting the Dalhousie Tigers (2-0-1) at 7 p.m., while the Huskies visit the UNB REDS (1-1-0) at 3 p.m. in Fredericton.
