MONCTON, NB - Saint Mary's forward Cara Freeman scored the lone goal of the match in the 26th minute, as the Huskies defeated the Moncton Aigles Bleues 1-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Croix-Bleue Medavie Stadium in Moncton, NB.
The Huskies offence was threatening from the opening whistle, with midfielder Charlotte Baines (Halifax, NS) and forward Virginia Boone (Halifax, NS) each generating quality scoring chances.
In the 26th minute, the Huskies broke through, as midfielder Abby Patten (Halifax, NS) played a perfectly timed through-ball to forward Cara Freeman (Halifax, NS) who took two touches and fired a left-footed strike past Moncton goalkeeper Krista Phillips (Dalhousie, NB). Freeman's fifth goal of the campaign gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.

That would be the only goal scored all match, despite several good scoring opportunities from the Huskies, including a shot from midfielder Brenna Kennedy (Fletcher's Lake, NS) that hit the crossbar but somehow stayed out of Moncton's goal.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 2-1-1 on the campaign, with seven points tying them for third in the AUS standings through two weeks of play. The Huskies will hit the road to Sydney, NS next weekend, as they take on the Cape Breton Capers (1-0-2) on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. AST.
The Aigles Bleues drop to 1-1-1 on the season, currently in seventh place in the standings. Moncton will visit the Acadia Axewomen (2-2-0) next Friday at 5 p.m. AST in Wolfville, NS.
