Huskies women’s soccer announce commitment of defender Reganne Abel

Saint Mary's Huskies women's soccer head coach Marisa Colzie is pleased to announce the commitment of defender Reganne Abel for the 2026 season.

A 5'6" centreback / full back from Ottawa, ON, Abel joins the Huskies out of West Carleton Secondary School and West Ottawa Soccer Club.

"I've always loved the East Coast, and I knew when I visited SMU that it would be a great fit for me," says Reganne. "Coach Marisa and the team were very welcoming, and I look forward to being part of the Huskies!"

Abel was named the 2024 West Ottawa Soccer Club Player of the Year, and won their True Sport Award in 2022. She previously co-captained the U15 OPDL team, helping them earn a spot in the Premier Division. In the summer of 2025, she helped lead her team to win the U18 Umbro Showcase.

During her time at West Carleton Secondary School, Abel captained the team to an appearance at the 2024 OFSAA AAA Soccer Championships, and was named the 2023 Junior Athlete of the Year.

Abel is described as a tenacious, determined defender, with leadership qualities and strong communication skills.

"We are so happy to welcome Reganne Abel to the Huskies program!" says Huskies head coach Marisa Colzie. "Reganne is a tenacious defender with a willingness to compete. She is versatile across the backline and confident building out of the back. We're excited to have her and look forward to watching her continue to grow as a player and person!"

An honour roll student with a 90% average, Abel will be studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Mary's.

The Huskies will kick-off the 2026 season on home field as they host the UNB REDS on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.
