Huskies women’s soccer announce commitment of defender Cerys Dowrick
Saint Mary's Huskies women's soccer head coach Marisa Colzie is pleased to announce the commitment of defender Cerys Dowrick for the 2026 season.
A 5'7" centreback from Waterloo, ON, Dowrick joins the Huskies out of Waterloo Collegiate Institute and Cambridge United OPL.
"I'm looking forward to becoming a Husky and competing at the U SPORTS level," says Cerys. "I'm excited for this next chapter and to be out on the East Coast!"
Dowrick is currently playing with the Cambridge United of the Ontario Premier League, consistently playing a full 90 minutes as one of the younger players in the league.
Dowrick previously competed with Waterloo BVB, captaining her team to the 2025 OPDL Cup Championships, as well as helping her team to the finalst at the 2024 Challenger Cup and semifinals of the 2025 Charity Shield. She is ranked #148 in the Class of 2026 by First Touch Football.
Described as a composed and consistent centreback with strong vision and a high soccer IQ, Cerys reads the game well and stays organized defensively. Her coaches also say she is comfortable on the ball, able to play long passes and build from the back, and drive forward when there's space.
An honour roll student, and winner of the KW Legacy Leadership Scholarship, Dowrick will be studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Mary's, with plans to major in Entrepreneurship and minor in Psychology.
The Huskies will kick-off the 2026 season on home field as they host the UNB REDS on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.
