WOLFVILLE, N.S. — In a thrilling match between Saint Mary's and Acadia on Friday night, the Axewomen claimed a 3-2 victory over the Huskies in front of 437 fans at Stu Aberdeen Court.
In the rematch of the 2024 AUS women's volleyball championship final, Saint Mary's started slow, dropping the first set 25-21. They rallied in the second, narrowly edging Acadia 28-26. Acadia took the third set 25-22, regaining the lead. Saint Mary's fought back to win the fourth set 25-18, forcing a decisive fifth set. Acadia ultimately emerged on top, winning the final set 15-13 to secure the match.
Emilia Mikanovich earned player-of-the-game honours for Saint Mary's with a standout performance, recording 20 kills. Sydney Fader also contributed with 12 kills and four service aces, while setter Grace Blaskovits tallied 45 assists.
For Acadia, Jenna Lake led the way with 11 kills and 17 digs. Katie MacLean set up her teammates with 41 assists. Mia Lemay-Evans, named player of the game for Acadia, had a big match at the net with nine points from two solo blocks and six block assists.
