Burke, Labrecque pace Huskies at wet and windy Acadia Invitational Meet

WOLFVILLE, NS - In real character-building conditions, the Saint Mary's Huskies cross country team were back in action for their first race of the season, the Acadia Invitational at Hennigar's Farm in Wolfville, NS.

As the rain poured down, three women toed the line for the Huskies: third-year captain Jacqueline Moore (Dartmouth, NS), third-year Ashley Brady (Saddle Hills, AB), and returning for her last year of eligibility, Bhreagh Burke (Halifax, NS). In her return to the maroon and white, Burke was the Huskies top finisher in a time of 37:40. Burke was followed by Brady in 37:59 and then Moore in 38:34.

Winner of the women's 8km race was Sophie Black of Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues in a time of 31:46. St.FX X-Women placed 1st in the team standings with a score of 23 points.

The rain did not relent as the men stepped to the line. Making their debuts in maroon and white were first-year athletes Oliver Hubka (Edmonton, AB), Cole Miller (Halifax, NS), Brady Kyle (Wolfe Island, ON), and Zack Kennedy (Richmond, BC). Second-year athlete Alex Labrecque (Newport Station, NS), was the top finisher for the Huskies in a time of 30:33.

Winner of the men's race was Jacob Benoit of the Dalhousie Tigers in a time of 26:53. The St.FX X-Men took 1st in the men's team standings with a score of 25 points.

The Huskies are back in action on September 21st, at the STFX Invitational Meet in Antigonish, NS.
