Three Huskies selected to participate in 2025 U SPORTS East-West Bowl

Three members of the Saint Mary's Huskies football team - receiver Joshua Jack, defensive lineman Liam MacDonald and linebacker Matthew Schill - have been selected to participate in the 2025 U SPORTS East-West Bowl, scheduled to be played May 10 in Waterloo, ON.

Joshua Jack, a third year receiver out of Brampton, ON, appeared in six games, recording seven catches for 171 yards and a touchdown. Jack added 197 yards as a kick returner. Over three seasons with the Huskies, Jack has recorded 15 catches for 335 yards and one touchdown, adding 546 kick return yards and one touchdown on 24 kick returns, and 223 punt return yards yards on 22 punt returns.

Liam MacDonald, a fourth year defensive lineman out of Winnipeg, MB, appeared in six games, recording 11.5 total tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery. Over four seasons with the Huskies, MacDonald has recorded 32.0 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and three fumble recoveries in 24 games played.

Matthew Schill, a fourth year linebacker out of Indian Head, SK, appeared in eight games, recording 20.5 tackles including 4.0 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was named AUS Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 14, 2024, after recording 7.0 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in a win over the Mount Allison Mounties.

The University of Waterloo will host the 2025 East-West Bowl on Saturday, May 10, at 12:30 p.m. ET at Warrior Field.

The event features the top 106 Canadian university football players eligible for the 2026 CFL Draft as they look to showcase their skills to coaches, general managers, and personnel from the Canadian Football League. A minimum of three players in their third or fourth year from each of the 27 U SPORTS football programs will attend the game.

The event will also feature a CFL Free Agent Camp (Tuesday, May 6), Kids Fun Camp (Wednesday, May 7) and the East-West Bowl Coaches Clinic on May 9 and 10.

"The Waterloo Warriors, with the support of our Athletic Department, and our football program are excited for the opportunity to host this annual weeklong all-star event for the second year in a row, our goal will be to make it an even better event than last years," said Warriors head coach Chris Bertoia. "Our intent is for U SPORTS football student-athletes and coaches to once again have an outstanding experience at the University of Waterloo."

Michael Faulds, head coach of the Uteck Bowl and Yates Cup champion Laurier Golden Hawks, will lead Team West, while Cherif Nicolas, who guided Bishop's Gaiters to a Loney Bowl title, will take charge of Team East.

Admission for University of Waterloo students is free with a valid WatCard.

East-West Free-Agent Camp

The annual East-West CFL Free Agent Camp will take place Tuesday May 6 from 6:00pm – 9:30pm at the Feridun Hamdullahpeur Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Waterloo.  This camp is open to any player Canadian, American, and Global player who is classified as a free agent (Canadians past their draft year). CFL teams will be present for evaluation and all testing results will be shared with all CFL clubs.

Testing will include: 40 Yard Sprint, Shuttle (5-10-5), Broad Jump and Bench followed by Indy Positional Drills and concluding with 1 on 1's (Padded – Helmet & Shoulder Pads).

East-West Bowl Kids Fun Camp

The 2025 East-West Bowl "Kids Fun Camp" is a one-night evening camp to be held on Wednesday May 7 at the Feridun Hamdullahpeur Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Waterloo from 5:30pm-8:30pm. This camp intended for all children aged 7-13 years old. 

In this non-contact camp children will learn fundamental football skills through interactive and inclusive drills in a FUNenvironment. Campers will be coached by the U SPORTS players and coaches. 

Registration Cost: $55.00 + HST

The camp includes a T-Shirt and an autograph signing session with the U SPORTS East-West All-Star Game Players & Coaches.

East-West Bowl Coaches Clinic (In partnership with Football Canada)

The 2025 East-West Bowl Coaches Clinic takes place May 9 and 10 on the campus of the University of Waterloo. All amateur football coaches (minor, high school, OSFL, PSO's, CJFL, USports) are invited to attend the event.  This year's lineup includes 13 U SPORTS head coaches from across the country, and seven U SPORTS full-time assistant coaches from across the country. These coaches will make presentations on leadership, player positional skill development, rules, officiating, team culture, and offensive/defensive systems.

The clinic will consist of on-field Indy drill demonstrations from current East-West Bowl players (filmed and shared), classroom presentation sessions, and informal chalk talks.

** Please note that with the support of Football Canada and the NCCP, 15 professional development points will be awarded for registering and attending this event.

  • Coaching Staff (4 Coaches from same staff) - $300.00 + HST (includes Clinic Sessions, on-field positional Indy drills, 4 meals, and 4 Game tickets to East-West Bowl).
