SYDNEY, NS - Saint Mary's guard Jasha'jaun Downey scored a career-high 32 points, but the Huskies were defeated 85-80 by the Cape Breton Capers in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action on Friday night at the Sullivan Fieldhouse in Sydney, N.S.
The Capers were led by guard Shakael Pryce with 23 points and 13 assists. Tyson Cato added an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double, while Stefan Anisko chipped in 12 points for the Capers.
The Huskies were led by Jasha'jaun Downey, who scored a career-high 32 points on 11/22 FG and 5/10 3FG, and added five rebounds and two assists. Eliel Nsoseme added a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double, plus six blocked shots. Tjark Lademacher (11 points), Jayrell Diggs (10 points) and Devawn White (10 points) also chipped in double-digit scoring.
The Capers win improves their record to 10-7, good for second in the AUS standings. Cape Breton will be back on home court next weekend, hosting the Dalhousie Tigers (6-10) on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, with both games tipping off at 8 p.m.
The Huskies loss drops their record to 6-10 on the season, as they remain in the sixth and final playoff position in the conference. Saint Mary's are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8, visiting the STFX X-Men (12-3) at 8 p.m. in Antigonish, N.S.
