Huskies fall 4-2 to X-Women

ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Women picked up four points on the weekend with a 4-2 win over the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday night at the Charles V. Keating Centre. It also makes three wins in STFX, who sit second in the AUS standings and are ranked 10th in U SPORTS.

First star and STFX Gabriel Pizza player of the game Lainey Joyce had a two-point night, with a goal and an assist, as did second star Mackenzie Lothian. Saint Mary's goaltender Sophie Scully picked up the third star with 35 saves, while STFX's Bianca Zak had 19 stops for the win.

Laci Boyd opened the scoring at 15:19 of the first period, depositing a rebound off a Joyce shot.

Joyce then made it a 2-0 STFX lead three minutes later as she was on the receiving end of a two-on-one rush with Claire Carruthers.

Avery Cant replied for the Huskies on the powerplay in the second, but Landyn Pitts restored the STFX two-goal lead 30 seconds later.

The Huskies looked to mount a comeback after a Sydney Mintz goal halfway through the third period, but Lothian iced the game with an empty netter.

The X-Women third straight win improves their record to 8-3-0-0 on the season, while the Huskies loss snaps a two game win streak and drops their record to 5-5-0-1 on the campaign. The X-Men will bee back on home ice on Friday, Nov. 14 as they host the UNB REDS (9-2-0-0), while the Huskies will be back on home ice on Friday, Nov. 14, hosting the Moncton Aigles Bleues (6-4-1-0) at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre. STFX returns to home ice on Friday, November 14, when they host the AUS leading UNB REDS.
