FREDERICTON, N.B. - The St. Thomas Tommies defeated the Saint Mary's 2-1 to finish off the Atlantic University Sport women's hockey regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Grant Harvey Centre in Fredericton, N.B.
The Huskies opened the scoring 4:14 into the first period, as forward Kara MacLean deked into the Tommies zone, before being dispossessed, but linemate Keyara Nelson jumped on the loose puck to put SMU ahead 1-0.

Midway through the period, the Tommies tied it up with a powerplay goal from forward Nadia Lavoie.
The two teams exchanged scoring opportunities, but goaltenders Ridleigh Hansen and Katie Sweeney were sharp, turning away all attempts, including Hansen stopping a penalty shot.

But just over three minutes into the third period, Tommies forward Lauren Smith scored, giving the Tommies a 2-1 lead that they were able to hold onto for the remainder of the game.
The Huskies outshot the Tommies 39-24, with Katie Sweeney stopping 38 shots on her way to Player of the Game honours, while Ridleigh Hansen made 22 saves in defeat.
With the win, the Tommies finish the regular season with a 18-8-0-2 record, clinching the #3 seed in the AUS women's hockey playoffs. They'll take on the #6 seed Moncton Aigles Bleues (12-11-2-3) in the quarterfinal series, with schedule TBA.
The Huskies loss gives them a 14-10-0-4 record heading into playoffs as the #5 seed. They'll visit the #4 seed UPEI Panthers (16-9-2-0) in the quarterfinal series, with schedule TBA.
