Keyshawn Beswick, a first year defensive back from Surrey, BC, is the Huskies male athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Nov. 3-9, 2025.
Beswick was named Player of the Game in the Huskies 46-11 win over the STFX X-Men in the Loney Bowl championship game on Saturday, winning the Don Loney Memorial Trophy as Championship MVP.
Beswick's second quarter interception set the tone for a dominant defensive performance, and he added 3.5 tackles and two pass break-ups, playing lockdown defence on the X-Men's All-Star receivers.
"I want to give all the credit to my teammates that I go against in practice every day," said Beswick post-game. "I think we have the best receivers and the AUS and going up against them in practice has made me a much better player, and it's prepared me for moments like this."
A second generation Husky, Beswick's father Marc played for the Huskies from 2006-07, and was part of the last Huskies team to reach the Uteck Bowl in 2007.
The U SPORTS #5 ranked Huskies now advance to the Uteck Bowl National Semifinal for the first time since 2010, where they will host the #4 ranked Montréal Carabins on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium. GET TICKETS
"It means a lot to win this one, but we know the jobs not finished," added Beswick post-game. "We expect to go all the way, we know our team is good enough, we've got the best defence in the game, and the Vanier has been our goal all season long."
