Shearer scores pair as Huskies defeat Mounties 3-0
Saint Mary's forward Ava Shearer scored a pair of goals, leading the Huskies to a 3-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Saturday night in Sackville, N.B.
Shearer opened the scoring midway through the first period, scoring off a one-timer from linemate Mia Faseruk to put the Huskies ahead 1-0.

The Huskies outshot the Mounties 12-3 through the opening period, and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Shearer added to the Huskies lead just over six minutes into the second period, scoring a powerplay goal off a feed from Jillian Duggan to make it 2-0 Huskies.

Saint Mary's outshot the Mounties 16-4 through the second period, and took a 2-0 lead into second intermission.
Late in the third period, the Mounties pulled their goalie while on the powerplay, and Huskies forward Mackenzie Beggs took advantage, scoring a shorthanded goal to seal the 3-0 Huskies win.

The Huskies outshot the Mounties 38-17, with Ridleigh Hansen stopping 17 shots for the shutout win, while Silia Gregg turned away 35 shots in defeat.
With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 10-9-0-3 on the season, good for sixth in the AUS standings. The Huskies will be back in action next week, taking on their crosstown rivals the Dalhousie Tigers in a home-and-home, Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Halifax Forum and Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Dauphinee Centre, with both games dropping the puck at 7 p.m. GET TICKETS
The Mounties loss drops their record to 1-21-0-0 on the campaign. Mount Allison will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 30, visiting the STFX X-Women at 7 p.m. in Antigonish, N.S.
